Where do I start with this lot…
A gem of a find is somewhat of an understatement! With the unsigned industry absolutely saturated with guitar driven bands it becomes harder and more monotonous to continue sifting through the piles to find that unique sound or flavour. This makes Bedface a breath of much needed fresh air.
If like me you grew up listening to melodies of the 60s and 70s; that broad spectrum where an explosion of creativity, spiritual connection and artistic freedom brought to life such wonderful sound and vastly differing music, then this band are well worth a listen!
And the album very much keeps with this fresh and differing sound. There are clear markers throughout the album suggesting the influential power that music has had on this young band, I can hear little nuances that pay tribute to the early stones, the eagles and a definite nod through some of the riffs to the late great Hendrix. However don’t let that persuade you that this is a heavy rock n roll album because it is not! In fact the album is acoustically driven! Paradoxically the guitar driven riffs are both powerful and subtle! The band have somehow managed to blend vocal harmonies over beautiful acoustic guitar along with powerful lead and drums! A heady mix!
An Enigma of a band to be sure, even as I listened on, picking out the influences of heavier rock n roll 60s sound I can also start to hints of the softer songs from Rory Gallagher, some Fleetwood mac and even a little Phil Collins coming through! Despite this seemingly mixed up mess of vastly differing sounds, these songs flow perfectly! The vocal harmonies are devine, the lead guitar, driven by the signature 60s wah is not overbearing and the entire production soundly compliments the counterparts.
As I’ve already stated, in an industry swamped with young bands clamouring to be the next big guitar band, it can sometimes become a little hollow and lifeless. Listening to this album is an immediate rejuvenation of the soul, and a much needed diversity!
Bedface. Unique. Powerful. Subtle. Beautiful. I’m not usually one for “rating” but if this were indeed a rotten tomatoe affair then Bedface would be walking away with a 9/10.
You know the score, check them out on all major social media platforms etc. I can promise something very different and worthwhile.
